They are also extremely important if you are considering applying for Social Security Disability! As you schedule and make the multiple doctor and healthcare appointments, the toll on your pocketbook may become apparent very quickly! You may realize that you need financial help to cover the expenses of these visits. For those of you who live in Bexar County and who do not have private or public health insurance, we may have an answer for you. It is called Care Link. What is Care Link?

CareLink is a program operated by the University Health System here in Bexar County. It is a program to financially help those who do not have private or public health insurance and who meet the income requirements of the program. CareLink is not an insurance plan. It works with families to set up a monthly payment plan based upon family size and income.

What is the Income Requirement of the Program?

To qualify for CareLink, an individual or family’s income must be below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. In 2013, for an individual, this would be below $34,470 per year. For a family of four, this would be below $70,650.

How Do I Apply for CareLink?

You can make an appointment to apply for CareLink at any of the CareLink offices or Service Centers.  You can also apply for CareLink online.

What Do I need to Bring to the Appointment?

You need to bring three things to the appointment:

  1. Proof of Identification
  2. Proof of Residency
  3. Proof of Income

It is important to note that when you are filing a disability claim, the proof of income can be a letter from your attorney indicating that you are currently pending a disability claim. CareLink will not require any further break down of household income.

CareLink is a valuable program for those who are uninsured and need help getting the financial assistance they need to continue getting the care they need as well as the medical documentation needed to apply for Social Security Disability.
