“I Can’t Afford a Doctor, But I Need Medical Care.”
Virtually all of our car wreck clients need quality medical care, but some of them do not have health insurance and cannot afford to pay out of their pocket. We can help, and we do it on a lot of our cases. At the Packard Law Firm, we know reputable doctors, therapists and chiropractors who understand your injuries and will provide quality medical treatment on a deferred payment basis. These doctors don’t work for us, and they exercise their own medical judgment, but they are willing to provide treatment to our clients if they obtain a “letter of protection” from our office. This means that they will get paid after the case is over. These doctors would not be comfortable with this arrangement unless they had confidence in our law firm – trusting that we would not take a case unless it has a substantial chance of success. Being able to receive medical treatment under a letter of protection is a tremendous benefit to our clients because it allows them to get quality medical care from specialists who understand car wreck injuries without any money up front and without any health insurance.
“I Need Advice About How My Medical Care Is Going to Affect My Case.’
“Is there a particular doctor you want me to see? Should I use my own health insurance? What about PIP? I need direction on all these issues.” These are all extremely imporant questions because your choices about medical care can make a big difference in the outcome of your case, and we are ready to guide you through this process. Doctors are taught in medical school to be patient advocates, but some of them seem to have forgotten and have started advocating for the insurance industry rather than the patient. Some doctors consistently tell the patient that they are not hurt even when even when the patient clearly has significant injuries.
We won’t let this happen to you. We also give you advice about when and how to pay for you medical care. This is more important than you might think. Due to some legal technicalities, the way you finance your medical treatment impacts the way the entire case is presented and the size of the recovery. We also help you minimize your subrogation burden to the extent allowed by law. (Subrogation is when your private health insurance gets reimbursed from your settlement for the case-related medical bills it paid.) Some insurance companies are entitled to full reimbursement at the end of your case, some are entitled to partial reimbursement, and some are entitled to no reimbursement. Because we know the ins and outs of subrogation, we plan strategically about when and how you should pay your medical bills. This is another way we “fight for you” – by giving you sound advice that will maximize the amount of money you actually take home.
